Thanks for this. I live in Mexico City and it is rain season here. Potholes are a mess, especially because it will take the government forever to fix them so I decided to try it for myself. Ron Swanson inspired me (lol), but you taught me :D

i have a patch that has lasted 2 years with some pebbles under it. what it was was a sink hole a spot in the tar that was warn down and sunk in looking had loose material in it i had 2 sink holes i swept em out and laided down alil stone and raked it in level about a half inch of stone rock whatever in both holes then put about 2 inches of cold patch and tampered it down. survived 2 winters outlasted another patch where i did not use any base

Thanks for the questions Dan. You could use some crushed stone if you would like to save some money. For a longer lasting driveway, it is important to use the cold patch. Adding crushed stone to the bottom of your pothole could cause shifting and eventually other problems in your pavement down the road. For a short term fix however, crushed gravel might be a good cost-effective alternative for those on a budget.

Hi Dan, I've actually never heard of that before. As Kerosine is already a primary ingredient in cold patch it seems that it might be redundant, but next time I'll have to try and let you know! As long as the cold patch is properly tampered, it will be sufficient on its own. We don't use the term "crowning" but it is stated in the video to be sure to fill the pothole a few inches over, which is for the purpose of crowning. Sorry if that wasn't clear!

also you dont mention using a base??? shouldent u use alil crushed stone and rake it in aswell in the hole before u patch why use accessive cold patch and waste it by filling in a hole thats a foot deep with patch material why make your patch thicker then your whole driveway. your losing money that way

Dont use any kerosine on the edges ??? and i dont see u mention crowning you dont crown???

no spraying kerosine on the edges ??? doesnt that help the patch bond

You can fill it all at once, however, remember that this is a temporary fix. If it is a deep pothole we would suggest you call a contractor as soon as possible to properly repair the area.

Perhaps you meant EXCESS material rather than ACCESS material in step three. Whomever made up the slides listened to your words and did make an allowance for your accent.

For a deep pot hole like in the video.. would you recommend doing it in layers or just all at once?
